LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming held its ground in second place through the second day of finals events at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on Saturday.
Highlights from the meet:
-The Generals remain in second place in the team standings through two days. The Diplomats retain their lead with 1,111.5 points to W&L's 1,020.5. Mount St. Mary's (888) sits third, followed by Mary Washington (780.5) and Shippensburg (547) to complete the top-five teams.
-First-year
Dalton Jobe (Henrico, Va. / Collegiate School) had the high finish for the Generals, as he won the 400 IM (4:02.19).
-Sophomore
Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) and first-year
Thomas Denton (Essex, Vt. / Essex) were among the 200 medley relay (1:34.18) swimmers and top individual finishers. The two were joined on the relay by sophomore
Baxter Smelzer (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) and senior
Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) for a fifth-place finish.
-Individually, Fritz came in fifth in the 100 fly (52.15) and Denton placed third in the 100 fly (51.73).
-Sophomore
Luke Nagel (Wayne, Pa. / Conestoga) and first-year
Charles Byars (Oxford, Miss. / Oxford) rounded out W&L swimmers with a Top 3 individual finish, as Nagel touched third in the 200 free (1:43.26) and Byars was third in the 100 back (51.41).
