DANVILLE, Va. - Members of the Washington and Lee University wrestling team competed at the Cougar Open on Sunday and scored the fourth-best 379 team points at the open. 

The Generals tallied eight podium-finishes on the day with a win in the 184 weight class. Jack McCusker (MAnhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) racked up a team-high 28.0 points on his way to the first place finish.

McCusker recorded wins by fall in the first, second and quarterfinal matches before winning by decision over unattached Mison Mickle, 5-1 in the semifinal round. In the championship match, McCusker defeated Averett's Jacob Jimenez by fall at 3:41. 

John Santowski (Pittsford, N.Y. / Pittsford Mendon) made an appearance in the 197 championship match and fell to Roanoke's Cam Cavins by decision, 11-10, but scored 21.5 team points for the Blue and White. Santowski won by fall in the first round and semifinal match, then he defeated the quarterfinal opponent, McDaniel's Eric Ward, with a technical fall at 18-2. 

David Rubin (Matawan, N.J. / Matawan Regional) won the 133 consolation match after suffering a defeat to Ferrum's Rubyn Semedo to send Rubin into the third-place match. Rubin dominated his final round of the day with a 13-3 major decision win over Brandon Dasen of Coker.

Roanoke College, who will travel to Lexington and Thursday night for the first ODAC dual of the 2022-23 season, tallied the most team points on Sunday with 842.

Averett and Shenandoah University rounded out the top-3 finishers with 714 and 431 points, respectively.
