Generals swim past competition at ODAC Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team triumphed over an eight-team field at the annual ODAC Relays at home on Saturday afternoon.
 
Highlights from the Meet:
-The Generals scored 485 points to top the field, while Roanoke narrowly edged Lynchburg for the runner-up spot. The Maroons scored 312.5 points to 311 for the Hornets. For the full list of team scores and finishes, click here.
 
-W&L won nine out of the 10 events at the meet and also had 12 different swimmers aid in at least one win each. Nine Generals helped the squad to multiple wins.
 
-Leading the way with a hand in five wins on the day was sophomore Matt Fritz (Reston, Va. / South Lakes), which came in the 3x50 fly relay (1:08.96), 3x50 back relay (1:11.73), 3x100 IM relay (2:41.43), 200 medley relay (1:34.77) and 4x25 underwater dolphin kick relay (42.42).
 
-Junior Will Hughes (Fairfax, Va. / James W. Robinson Secondary) and first-year Thomas Denton (Essex, Vt. / Essex) finished the day as a part of four wins each. Hughes was on the 200 medley relay with Fritz, as well as the 400 free relay (3:12.24), 500 free relay (4:12.76) and 200 free relay (1:26.34).
 
-Denton joined Fritz on three winning relays, coming in the 3x50 fly relay, 3x50 back relay and 3x100 IM relay, while teaming up with senior Todd Echols (Winston Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) and first-year Harrison Cerone (Darnestown, Md. / Georgetown Preparatory School) on the 3x50 breast relay (1:20.41).

-Fritz, Kramer, Denton – 3x50 back relay (1:11.73)
-Echols, Cerone, Denton – 3x50 breast relay (1:20.41)
-Jobe, Hughes, Kramer, Flower – 400 free relay (3:12.24)
-Denton, Jobe, Fritz – 3x100 IM relay (2:41.43)
-Hughes, Flower, Nagel, Jobe – 500 free relay (4:12.76)
-Fritz, Cerone, Whiting, Hughes – 200 medley relay (1:34.77)
-Fritz, Hall, Eberly, Whiting – 4x25 UW dolphin kick relay (42.42)
-Hughes, Echols, Kramer, Flower – 200 free relay (1:26.34)

The Generals will travel to Fredericksburg to take on Mary Washington in their next competition, an October 15, 1:00 pm dual meet.
