LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) totaled a match-high 23 digs to lead the top-seeded and 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over fifth-seeded Bridgewater in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday at Holekamp Gym.
The Generals (15-0) hit .213 in the contest, while holding the Eagles (8-5) to .017, as the Blue and White claimed the three sets, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-19.
W&L had 35 kills on 108 attempts with 12 errors. Bridgewater finished with 25 kills on 119 total swings with 23 errors.
Senior outside hitter
Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) led the team with 10 kills and 11 digs. Gard added three assists and one ace to her 23 digs.
Senior middle blocker
Courtney Berry (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) recorded nine kills on just 15 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) tallied 27 assists and 12 digs.
Junior outside hitter Hope Jennings led the Eagles with five kills and 16 digs. Sophomore setter Grace Hayes finished with 20 assists, six digs and three kills.
The Generals host the championship match later on Saturday and play the winner of second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan and sixth-seeded Randolph-Macon.
