Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. — Junior outside hitter
Carson Allsteadt (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) tallied a career-high 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage, to go with a career-best six blocks, in leading the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Randolph-Macon in a neutral-site match at Randolph College on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-1, 3-1 ODAC) claimed the first set, 25-18, but the Generals (6-0, 6-0 ODAC) answered by taking the second, 25-19. In the third, W&L ran out to a 10-1 lead en route to winning the stanza, 25-14.
The two teams went back and forth in the fourth with the Blue and White holding a 20-18 edge late in the set. From there, the Generals claimed five of the next six points, capped on a kill by first-year outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall), to win the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
Allsteadt's previous career-best in kills was six and her career-high in blocks was three. Senior outside hitter
Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) led the team with 11 kills and also had 14 digs.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched a team-best 16 digs. Senior middle blocker
Courtney Berry (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) totaled eight kills with six blocks.
Sophomore setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) recorded 33 assists and 11 digs. Junior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School) contributed five kills and five blocks.
Sophomore right side Gracyn Draney led R-MC with 11 kills, while senior libero Mackenzie Lowe had 16 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Grace Parker chipped in 10 kills and 11 digs.
This marked W&L's first win over the Yellow Jackets in the regular season since October 18, 2014. The Blue and White most recently toppled R-MC on November 3, 2018 in the ODAC Championship match. The Generals played Randolph later on Saturday.
