Baltimore, Md. — Top-ranked Johns Hopkins held the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a .010 hitting percentage, as the Blue Jays defeated the Generals, 3-0.
W&L (15-5) jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the opening set led by two kills from sophomore outside hitter
Sydney Heifner (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) and a kill and a block by senior middle blocker
Katy Blain (West Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School). Johns Hopkins (19-0) won the next four points to even the score, 10-10, but the Blue and White answered with a 5-1 run to assume a 15-11 advantage.
The Blue Jays responded by winning five straight points and 12 of the next 14 to grab a 23-17 lead. Following a combination block from senior right side

Maggie McSwain (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), Johns Hopkins claimed the next two points to take the set, 25-18. From there, the Blue Jays closed out the match by winning the final two sets, 25-15 and 25-14.
The Blue and White totaled 19 kills and 18 errors on 96 attempts for its hitting percentage, while JHU registered 40 kills and 17 errors on 106 attempts for a .217 hitting percentage.
Junior defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) led the Generals with 16 digs. Junior setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 17 assists and six digs. Heifner recorded seven kills to lead the team.
Senior outside hitter Elayna Williams notched 11 kills and 10 digs to pace the Blue Jays, and senior right side Sydney Portale tallied 10 kills on a .316 hitting percentage.
The Generals next compete on Wednesday at Guilford at 7:00 pm.
