GREENSBORO, N.C. – The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee men's golf team shot an opening round score of 302 on Monday and sits in sixth-place out of 21 teams at the O'Brient-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College at The Cardinal by Pete Dye.
 
The accomplished field, which features numerous top Division III programs, is led by top-ranked Methodist and 20th-ranked Christopher Newport, both of which shot a +8 score of 292.  Seventh-ranked Greensboro is third (293) and is followed by Averett (295) and 11th-ranked Denison (300), which is two strokes ahead of the Generals.
 
Individually, CNU's Alex Price leads the way with a 66 (-5) that is two strokes better than Cooper Hrabak of Methodist.
 
For W&L, junior Caleb Choe (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) and sophomore Cannon Crane (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents' Episcopal) are leading the way, with both carding a 75 (+4) which is tied for 22nd out of the 119 players in the field. 
 
The Generals were bunched pretty tightly in the field, as junior Pierce Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C. / Thomas Jefferson Classical) and first-years Andrew Plate (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) and Elias Malakoff (Mercer Island, Wash. / Seattle Academy) are just one stroke behind Choe and Crane.  All three recorded a +5 score of 76 and are tied for 31st-place.
