SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team saw six individuals place en route to finishing eighth out of 13 teams at the Star City Classic in Salem on Sunday.
 
Otterbein took the team title with 160.5 points, while Ferrum was second with 126.0 points.  Washington and Lee posted 65.0 points overall.
 
Leading the way for the Generals were a trio of grapplers who finished fourth in their respective weight classes.  Sophomore Joseph Tarquine (Gallatin, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) claimed fourth-place at 141 pounds after going 2-2 overall, first-year Alex Winant (Chester, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) went 3-2 for fourth in the 149-pound bracket and senior Andrew Taylor (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster) was 1-2 in finishing fourth in the 174-pound weight class.
 
Additionally, sophomore Joe Salerno (Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South), junior Patrick Hofstedt (Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park) and first-year Cameron Blizzard (Greensboro, N.C. / Ragsdale) all placed fifth in their brackets.  Salerno posted a 4-1 mark and was fifth at 149 pounds, Hofstedt and went 4-1 and was fifth at 174 pounds, and Blizzard went 4-1 en route to a fifth-place finish at 184 pounds.
 
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Williamsport, Pa., to participate in the Pennsylvania College of Technology Duals.  The Generals will open with York at 12:00 pm, and will also take on the host Wildcats and the University of Scranton.
