LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team held Roanoke to a -.048 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 victory on Tuesday at the Duchossois Tennis Center.
In each of the three sets, the Generals (23-6, 9-3 ODAC) used a decisive run to put the stanza away. In the first leading 14-12, W&L scored eight of the next 10 points to assume a 22-14 advantage. The Blue and White then won the first, 25-18.
The Generals opened the second on an 8-1 run and easily won the frame, 25-13. During the initial burst, junior middle blocker
Courtney Berry (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) totaled two blocks and a kill. In the final set, W&L led 11-7, and then tallied six straight points to go up 17-7 on its way to taking the set, 25-13.
The Maroons (12-14, 5-6 ODAC) totaled 19 kills on 104 swings with 24 errors to reach its hitting percentage. The Generals were a force at the net, tallying nine total team blocks, with Berry leading the way with six and junior outside hitter
Leah Green (Longwood, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory School) registering five.
W&L had a .261 hitting percentage with 35 kills on 92 attempts with 11 errors. Green and Berry each recorded nine kills to lead the team. Berry finished with a .467 hitting percentage, while Green added five digs.

Kiera Borthwick (Northville, Mich./Northville) and junior outside hitter
Brynne Gould (Boone, N.C./Watauga) each had six kills. Gould chipped in 10 digs, while Borthwick hit .312. First-year defensive specialist
Caroline Gard (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched a match-high 14 digs, while first-year setter
Ashley Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 28 assists, five digs and four blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Linsey Bailey led Roanoke with seven kills and eight digs. First-year libero Kennedy Clemmer totaled 13 digs.
W&L honored its five seniors at the conclusion of the match. Defensive specialist
Allie Case (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South), outside hitters
Ashleigh Meade (Bristow, Va./Patriot) and
Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake), and setters
Mollie Ray (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and
Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) have led the Blue and White to a 92-39 overall record and a 40-7 mark in the ODAC over the last four years.
The Generals return to action this weekend at the Emory National Invitational. W&L faces ninth-ranked Berry on Friday at 4:00 pm, and then takes on Birmingham Southern on Saturday at 10:00 am and second-ranked Emory at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
