Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Junior midfielder Lauren Scheib assisted on two goals to lead Elizabethtown past the Washington and Lee field hockey team, 2-0, on Saturday at Wolf Field.
The Blue Jays (4-2) tallied the first goal of the contest in the 14th minute. Scheib had the ball on the right side and then passed to sophomore forward Brooke Zehr at the far post. Zehr redirected the ball into the cage to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 advantage.
The one-goal lead held up until the final minute of the contest. With 24 seconds on the clock, the Blue Jays knocked in their second goal to put the game away.
Off a penalty corner, Elizabethtown had the ball just outside the circle on the right side. A pass was sent to the far post, which was deflected by Scheib to junior forward Olivia Beachley. Beachley then stuffed in her third goal of the season to secure the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) made five saves for the Generals (1-4) in 70 minutes. Junior forward Lauren Paolano (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and first-year forward Grace Weise (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) led the Blue and White with two shots each.
The Blue Jays held a 9-6 edge in shots and a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Margo Donlin made four saves for Elizabethtown in 70 minutes.
W&L returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Mary Washington for a 4:00 pm contest.
