W&L Men's Swimming opens 2018-19 with road win

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Washington and Lee men's swimming team opened the 2018-19 season with a 156-101 win over Centre in a dual meet.

Highlights from the meet:

-W&L swimmers claimed victories in 10 total events, including nine individual races.

-Sophomore Patrick Sullivan (Pawleys Island, S.C./Waccamaw) won a trio of events to lead the charge for the Generals. All three wins came in individual races as the sophomore won the 50 freestyle (21.77), 200 freestyle (1:44.33) and 500 freestyle (4:51.50).

-Sophomore Danny Lynch (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) also put forth a strong outing, placing first in a pair of individual races and helping a relay to a win as well. He was victorious in the 200 backstroke (1:55.99) and the 1000 freestyle (10:17.42) while also swimming the opening leg for the winning 200 medley relay which finished in a pool-record time of 1:37.43.

-First-year Steve Warren (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) got his collegiate career off to a good start, logging wins in the 100 (59.14) and 200 breaststroke (2:14.76) events, with his time of 59.14 in the 100 being a pool record.

-Lynch, Warren, Jared Nickodem, Conner Van Vooren – 200 medley relay (1:37.43; pool record)
-Patrick Sullivan – 50 freestyle (21.77), 200 freestyle (1:44.33), 500 freestyle (4:51.50)
-Danny Lynch – 200 backstroke (1:55.99), 1000 freestyle (10:17.42)
-Steve Warren – 100 breaststroke (59.14; pool record), 200 breaststroke (2:14.76)
-Jared Nickodem – 200 butterfly (1:58.56)
-Conner Van Vooren – 100 freestyle (50.03)

Up Next:

The Generals will get back in the pool on Friday when they host Mary Washington at 6:00 pm in the first home meet of the season.
