Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Washington and Lee field hockey team led in shots and penalty corners, but Bridgewater scored the game's lone goal in the 63rd minute to upend the Generals, 1-0, on Saturday at Jopson Athletic Complex.
The loss is the first for the Blue and White (4-6, 2-1 ODAC) in a conference game since October 29, 2016, which also came at Bridgewater.
With 7:52 remaining in the second half, the Eagles (5-5, 2-1 ODAC) senior forward Tessa Tierson dribbled just inside the circle and ripped a shot that redirected off a W&L defender and into the far side of the cage for the contest's lone tally.
The Generals had a 10-6 advantage in shots and an 8-2 margin in penalty corners, but were still shutout for the fourth consecutive road game.
Senior goalkeeper Ariyel Yavalar (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) made three saves in 70 minutes, while junior keeper Ali Bishop stopped five shots for Bridgewater.
Junior forward Lauren Paolano (Huntington, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) led the team in shots with five, and senior forward Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va./St. Catherine's School) took four shots, including a team-high three on goal.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they play at Roanoke at 4:00 pm.
