Box Score

EMORY, Va. – Sophomore guard Taylor Blevins hit a layup with four seconds remaining to lead Emory & Henry to a 63-61 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Wednesday night at the John Rutledge King Center.

The game was tightly contested throughout as neither team led by more than six points and there were 12 ties and six lead changes.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the first half, and the Wasps (17-7, 11-4) took a slim, 27-25, lead into halftime. The score remained close in the third, with the Generals (11-12, 7-8) holding a 45-40 advantage heading into the final period.

The Wasps erased the lead with a 5-0 run in the opening two minutes of the quarter, and had assumed a 58-54 advantage with 3:24 remaining off of a three-pointer by sophomore guard Tessa Johnston. Back-to-back layups by junior forward Ailyn Kelly (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) and sophomore guard Andi Carrandi (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster Schools) knotted the game at 58-58 with 2:04 left. E&H had four shots on the next possession, but all came up empty, as a block by Kelly on the final attempt gave W&L possession with 1:34 remaining.

A turnover and foul by the Blue and White sent senior guard Asja Jenkins to the line where she split a pair of free throws (59-58) with 52 seconds left. Senior guard Megan Jacoby then stole the ball with 29 seconds remaining and was fouled on a fast break layup. She hit both free throws to extend E&H's lead to 61-58 with 23 seconds left.

First-year guard Taylor Casey (Brentwood, Tenn. / Franklin Road Academy) was fouled while attempting a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining, and sunk all three to tie the game (61-61). On Emory & Henry's final possession, Jacoby drove to the basket and dished it off to Blevins who scored the game-winning shot with four seconds left. Senior guard Jackie Clifford (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) heaved up a shot as time expired, but could not connect, as the Wasps secured the victory.

W&L finished 23-of-64 (.426) from the floor and hit 75.0 percent (9-12) from the charity stripe. Kelly led the Generals with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Casey finished with 19 points, while junior forward Emma Redding (Allentown, Pa. / Central Catholic) totaled 11 points, nine rebounds and went 5-of-5 from the foul line.
