Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Randolph held Washington and Lee to just 25.9 percent (7-27) shooting from the field in the second half en route to claiming a 66-56 victory over the Generals in ODAC women's basketball action on Wednesday night at the RAD Center.
The two teams traded baskets for much of the first period with neither team able to claim a decisive lead. The Generals (8-9, 4-5) held a slim advantage, 20-19, heading into the second. Junior guard Emily Perszyk (Greendale, Wis. / Greendale) scored 16 points in the first, going 6-of-8 from the field.
The WildCats (9-9, 4-5) started the second quarter with a six-point run to take a 25-20 lead with 6:55 remaining. W&L responded with an 8-0 run over the next 3:23 to assume a 28-25 advantage with 2:49 remaining in the half. Perszyk and first-year guard Taylor Casey (Brentwood, Tenn. / Franklin Road Academy) each hit three-pointers during the spurt. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter and the Blue and White held a 31-29 advantage at halftime.
W&L pushed its lead to 39-30 in the opening minutes of the second half, with six points coming from Casey. Randolph closed out the period with a 16-4 run to assume a 46-43 lead heading into the final stanza. The Generals pulled to within two (48-46) off of an old-fashioned three-point play by first-year forward Andy Smithey (Charlotte, N.C / Saint Mary's School) at the 8:28 mark of the fourth, but RC responded by scoring 10 of the next 11 points to put the game away.
Perszyk led the Generals with a game-high 23 points and six assists. Casey finished with 14 points, while junior forward Ailyn Kelly (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) tallied seven points and eight rebounds.
Junior forward Alexis Calloway led the Wildcats with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and junior guard Daijah Johnson totaled 11 points and seven rebounds. W&L shots 33.3 percent (19-57) from the field and 25.0 percent (6-24) from behind the arc. Randolph was 26-61 (42.6 percent) from the field and 2-6 (33.3 percent) from the three-point line.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, when they host Roanoke for a 2:00 pm contest.
