LEXINGTON, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's swimming team defeated Catholic, 168-88, on Saturday afternoon at Cy Twombly Pool. This was the Generals' final meet in the Cy Twombly Pool, as the team will compete in the new W&L Natatorium next season.
The Blue and White took first-place in all 14 events and set two new pool records. First-year Ali MacQueen (Memphis, Tenn. / St. Mary's Episcopal School) set a new pool record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.14, while first-year Emily Hageboeck (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) broke the pool record in the 200-yard breast in a time of 2:23.87.
The quartet of MacQueen, Hageboeck, senior Emily Rollo (Haddonfield. N.J. / Haddonfield Memorial) and sophomore Elle Chancey (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School) took first place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.14). MacQueen and Chancey were joined by senior Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) and junior Cassidy Fuller (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo) on the winning 200-yard free relay (1:40.43).
The Generals took first, second and third in the 1000-yard free with sophomore Jordan Watson (Fayetteville, Ga. / Whitewater) finishing first in a time of 10:55.61. Junior Mara Tynan (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) claimed second (11:13.20), while sophomore Alison Murtagh (Andover, Mass. / Andover) took third (11:16.85).
Holmes placed first in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:56.72, while Fuller finished second (1:58.80) and senior Abigail Sterns (Brussles, Belgium / Orcutt Academy-Brussels American School) touched the wall in 2:02.32 to take third.
Rollo, first-year Tori Hester (Cary, N.C. / Saint Mary's School) and senior Rachel Baker (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Calvary Baptist Day School) took the first (1:00.05), second (1:02.80) and third (1:05.23) respectively in the 100-yard back. Baker also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard fly (1:05.03).
In the 100-yard breast, Hageboeck touched the wall in 1:07.25 to take first, while senior Jillian Leigh (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) took third with a time of 1:15.13.
First-year Laura Bruce (New Orleans, La. / Academy of the Sacred Heart) claimed the top spot in the 200-yard fly in a time of 2:11.33, while first-year Kelly Amar (Mount Vernon, N.Y. / The Ursuline School) and senior Haylee Rademann (Folsom, Calif. / St. Francis) took the second (2:13.46) and third (2:15.17) spots respectively.
Chancey also had first-place finishes in the 50-yard free (25.15) and the 100-yard free (54.35). Rollo finished first in the 200-yard back in a time of 2:12.54, and Holmes placed first in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:12.02. Amar claimed the top spot in the 200-yard IM after touching the wall in 2:13.24.
The Generals return to the pool on January 21, when they travel to York (Pa.) to take on the host Spartans and Marymount at 1:00 pm.
