W&L Women's Soccer Falls to Arcadia, 2-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Arcadia scored two goals in the first 17 minutes of play and held on for a 2-1 win over the Washington and Lee women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the Haverford Kick Off Classic. 

Junior forward Kayla Haberbosch found the back of the net for the Knights (3-0) at the 12:49 mark off of a feed from senior midfielder Karis Poore. Arcadia junior midfielder Jess Kelly gave the Knights a 2-0 lead at 17:01 when she dribbled her way into a shot that got past sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Nolan (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive).

The Generals (1-1) had multiple scoring opportunities during the remainder of the first half, including a shot that went just over the goal and another that hit the top of the crossbar.

W&L came out strong in the second half and got on the board in the 61st minute when a pass to the middle of the box by senior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) found junior forward Chandler Wickers (Portola Valley, Calif. / Menlo School), who in turn found the goal with a shot. The Generals sent four more shots at the goal from there, but were not able to send an equalizer past Arcadia first-year goalkeeper Taelor Rivera.

Washington and Lee held a 14-11 advantage on shots and a 7-2 mark on corner kicks. Nolan played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves for the Generals, while Rivera posted seven saves while playing the duration in goal for Arcadia.

W&L returns to action on Saturday and Sunday when it hosts the W&L Classic. The Generals will open with fifth-ranked Centre on Saturday at noon.
