Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior defender Caroline Hahn (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) scored the game winner in the 87th minute to help the Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeat St. Mary's (Md.), 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Watt Field.
Much of the first half remained scoreless, until the 43rd minute, when senior forward Ellen Airozo took a shot from the top of the box that went just past sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Nolan's (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) gloves. St. Mary's would take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Generals (4-2) evened the score at 63:51 with sophomore forward Caroline Peters' (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) first goal of the game. Hahn dribbled the ball down the right side of the field and found Peters, who placed a low shot into the corner of the net.
St. Mary's (3-3) would take the lead again in the 80th minute when junior defender Nora Howard found senior midfielder Claire Kostelnik in the middle of the box. W&L tied the game in the 84th minute, when first-year forward Kelsey Chamberlin (Greensboro, N.C. / Page) found Peters in the box for her second goal of the game.
The Generals game-winning goal came at 87:15, when senior midfielder Katie Pettit (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) threw the ball in on the right side of the field and found Hahn on the back left post, Hahn buried the shot to give the Generals the lead.
W&L held a 13-5 shot advantage and a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Nolan made one save while playing the full 90 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Flores and junior goalkeeper Sydney Larkin split time in the goal for the Seahawks. Flores made four saves, while Larkin made one save.
W&L returns to action on September 24, when it travels to Shenandoah for a 4:00 pm game.
