LEXINGTON, Va. — Marymount had three players notch at least 10 kills to defeat the Washington and Lee volleyball team, 3-1, on Saturday at the Warner Center.

The Saints (14-5) edged the Generals in the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22. The Generals (14-2) won the third, 25-18, behind five kills on seven attempts from senior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline). In the fourth, Marymount jumped out to a 14-7 lead and held on to win, 25-18.

Junior outside hitter Margaret McAlpin notched a match-high 17 kills, while hitting .400, to pace the Saints. Senior middle hitter Cailyn Thomas had 11 kills, and sophomore setter Caroline Hanson totaled 10 kills. Senior outside hitter Emileigh Rettig had a match-high 17 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) led the Blue and White with 16 kills and 10 digs. First-year outside hitter Allison Webb (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) recorded 12 kills and four digs.

Shand had seven kills on 15 attempts (.467 hitting percentage) to go along with five blocks. First-year setter Anna Soroka (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) recorded 21 assists, five digs and three blocks, while junior setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) had 15 assists and three digs. Junior defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) led the team with 15 digs.

The loss ended W&L's 13-match winning streak, dating back to September 3. The Generals return to action on Wednesday, when they host Mary Washington on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
