Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Five different players found the goal as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team posted a 5-0 victory over Randolph College on Saturday at Watt Field.
The Generals (6-3, 2-1) probed the WildCat defense for the opening 15 minutes of the contest, before slipping a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 lead at the 17:32 mark. Sophomore forward Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) carried the ball along the sideline and sent a cross into the box that was placed just inside the post by senior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry). For Jessee, the goal moved her into sixth-place on the school's all-time goal list (34).
W&L scored its second goal of the afternoon at the 27:11 mark when senior midfielder Katie Pettit (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) launched a shot from just outside the box that slipped in just under the crossbar for a 2-0 advantage.
Sophomore midfielder Sydney Abrisz (Chesterfield, Va. / Manchester) made it 3-0 in the 40th minute when she touched the ball around a defender and struck a high shot that beat Randolph (0-6-1, 0-2) junior goalkeeper Stephanie Quirk.
W&L carried the 3-0 lead into the intermission and added a fourth score just 1:03 into the second half when junior midfielder Chandler Wickers (Portola Valley, Calif. / Menlo School) scored unassisted. First-year forward Sara Spain (Morristown, Tenn. / Morristown West) provided the final margin in the 71st minute when she collected a ball in front of goal and sent it into the back of the net.
W&L out-shot the WildCats 35-1 and held a 13-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Sophomore Maggie Nolan (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) played all 90 minutes in goal to earn the shutout for W&L. Quirk also played the duration in goal and logged 18 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Hollins for a 4:00 pm contest.
