ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team dropped a pair of Centennial Conference matches on Saturday at Muhlenberg College.
The injury-depleted Generals were defeated by McDaniel by a score of 48-9 and W&L then fell to Ursinus, 40-13, in the second match.
Senior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) and sophomore Alex Pollera (Warren, N.J. / Watchung Hills Regional) both went 2-0 on the day, while first-year Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) went 1-1.
Tassoni moved to 26-2 overall with a pair of wins by decision at 184 pounds. He notched a 10-4 victory over McDaniel's Nick Cross and then posted a 17-3 major decision over Cody Richmond of Ursinus.
Pollera improved to 16-8 overall at 141 pounds with a win by injury default over Alvontae Drummond of McDaniel and a 6-4 win over Christian Hoogheem of Ursinus.
Bylykbashi led McDaniel's Ryan O'Boyle by a score of 14-1 in the third period, before suffering a loss by fall with 31 seconds left in the match. The 133-pounder then recovered to post a pin over Ursinus' Brandon Greyson in 4:37. The win tied Bylykbashi with Tassoni for the W&L season record for wins. He is now 29-5 on the season. Tassoni went 29-9 last year.
Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday, when it takes on Stevens Tech and NYU in Hoboken, N.J. Action begins at 11:00 am.
