WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team began its Centennial Conference slate on Saturday, taking on the Merchant Marine Academy and Muhlenberg for matches at McDaniel College.

The Generals (6-7, 0-2) dropped a 44-4 decision to the Merchant Marines (6-4, 1-0) and then fell to Muhlenberg (3-6, 1-1) by a score of 36-19.

First-year Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) went 2-0 on the day at 133 pounds to lead the way for the Generals.  He notched a 9-1 major decision over William Hardin of the Merchant Marines and then logged an 11-7 decision over Patrick Sockler of Muhlenberg.  Bylykbashi is now 26-4 on the season, just three wins away from tying the single-season wins record set by senior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) last season.

Tassoni, first-year 125 pounder Ethan Hartman (River Edge, N.J. / River Dell Regional) and sophomore 149-pounder Zachary Papin (Carrollton, Texas / St. Mark's) all went 1-1 on the day.  Tassoni bumped up to 197 pounds against the Merchant Marine Academy and fell to Ricky Fisher by a score of 8-4.  He then registered a 16-0 technical fall over Muhlenberg's Ethan Pentz at 184 pounds.  Tassoni is now 22-2 on the year.

Hartman fell to USMMA's Michael Mui by a score of 13-3 at 125 pounds and then received a forfeit win at 125 pounds against the Mules.

Papin dropped a 13-4 major decision to Nathan Twito of the Merchant Marines and recovered to post a 15-0 technical fall over Kash Calderon of Muhlenberg. 

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins for matches beginning at 12:00 pm.
