Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – Junior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) scored two goals for the Washington and Lee women's soccer team en route to a 4-2 victory over Salisbury on Saturday at the SU Soccer Complex.
Junior defender Katie Clemmons (Phoenix, Ariz. / Chaparral) started the scoring off for the Generals (1-0) when she tallied a goal off of a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Katie Pettit (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) just 6:16 into the contest. W&L took the 1-0 lead into intermission.
Jessee then scored in the 54th minute on a breakaway to increase the lead to 2-0. First-year midfielder Caroline Peters (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) netted the third goal for the Blue and White just 4:03 later, off of an assist from Clemmons. Jessee tallied the Generals' final goal at the 62:33 mark (4-0).
The Sea Gulls (1-1) responded when senior forward Victoria Luc found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to cut the lead to 4-1. Luc struck again with 28 seconds remaining in the contest to reach the final margin, 4-2.
W&L outshot Salisbury, 12-5, while the Sea Gulls held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Senior keeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) saw all 90 minutes of action in goal for the Generals and stopped two shots. Sophomore goalie Hope Knussman suffered the loss for the Sea Gulls and registered five saves.
W&L returns to action on Sunday when it faces Stevenson in the Salisbury Tournament. The match is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
