Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. — Emory & Henry pushed the Washington and Lee volleyball team to five sets on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center, but the Generals prevailed in the final set to claim the match, 3-2.
W&L (9-4, 4-0 ODAC) made quick work of the Wasps (4-8, 0-2 ODAC) in the first two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-18. E&H responded by claiming the third, 25-22, and then extended the match to a fifth by winning the fourth, 25-21. The Generals won five of the first six points of the final set en route to a 15-8 win to take the match.
The Blue and White had three players with at least 10 kills and had two players register double-doubles. Senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) had a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs.
First-year outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) posted 13 kills and 14 digs. Junior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) totaled 12 kills, five digs and five blocks.
Sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) notched a double-double with 44 assists and 15 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) tallied a match-high 21 digs to go along with six assists and four service aces.
Junior outside hitter Tristen Pennington (Kingsport, Tenn./Sullivan South) led the Wasps with 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior outside hitter Hannah Doss (Meadowview, Va./Patrick Henry) registered 10 kills and 17 digs. First-year setter Sam McCauley (Glade Spring, Va./Patrick Henry) notched a double-double with 15 assists and 14 digs.
The Generals next play on Saturday when they host fourth-ranked Emory at 11:00 am and second-ranked Christopher Newport at 3:00 pm.
