Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – First-year midfielder Megan Engeland (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) scored two of three first-half goals for the Washington and Lee women's soccer team en route to a 3-1 win over Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon at the Jopson Field Athletic Complex.
Engeland netted W&L's (6-1, 2-0) last two goals of the stanza at the 36:08 and 44:53 marks off of assists from junior midfielder Katie Pettit (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) and first-year midfielder Danielle Spickard (Valencia, Calif. / William S. Hart).
Sophomore midfielder Caroline Hahn (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) started the scoring off for the Blue and White with a tally in the 19th minute off of a cross from junior forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry).
The Generals held onto the 3-0 lead until sophomore forward Keri Rager scored the Eagles' (4-4, 1-1) lone goal with 4:59 remaining in the contest when she beat senior keeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) to reach the final margin.
Washington and Lee held a 16-11 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Healy played the entire contest in goal for the Generals and recorded four saves. Sophomore goalie Hayley Talbott took the loss for Bridgewater, seeing all 90 minutes of action and finishing with five saves.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Guilford for a 1:00 pm contest.
