LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee volleyball team pushed 22nd-ranked Berry to five sets, but came up just short in a 3-2 loss at the W&L Invitational on Saturday.

The Knights (8-1) won the first set, 25-22, but the Generals (5-4) claimed the next two, 25-19 and 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Berry responded by winning the fourth, 25-16. In the fifth set, the Knights led throughout, and claimed a 15-8 win.

Senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) notched a team-high 16 kills and added nine digs. Junior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) recorded 13 kills on a .417 hitting percentage. Shand was also honored following the conclusion of the Invitational with a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) led the back row with 15 digs and four assists, and sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) handled a majority of the setting duties with 34 assists.

Senior outside hitter Emily Stromberg (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) totaled a match-high 18 kills for the Knights, and she also had 13 digs. Senior middle blocker Katie O'Rourke (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb) tallied 13 kills and first-year right side Micayla Bedoian (Saluda, N.C./Hendersonville) had 11.

The Generals enter ODAC play on Wednesday, when they travel to Hollins for a 6:30 pm match.
