W&L Women's Soccer Falls to Emory, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Melinda Altamore (West Windsor, N.J. / W. Windsor-Plainsboro South) scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute to lift the Emory women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

Altamore tallied the game-winner just 6:07 into the second half when she beat senior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove).

The Generals (2-1) and the Eagles (2-2) went into halftime tied at 0-0, despite Emory out-shooting W&L, 9-0, in the first half.

For the game, Emory held an advantage in shots, 17-2, and in corner kicks, 11-1.

Healy saw all 90 minutes of action and posted four saves. Senior goalie Liz Arnold (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit Country Day) also played the entire contest for the Eagles and made one save.

W&L returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Meredith for a 2:00 pm contest.
