Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Heston Priestley (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial) netted the game-winning goal in the 71st minute to lead the Catholic men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Priestley tallied the game-winner off of a loose ball that bounced off of the post at the 70:05 mark.
First-year midfielder Kevin Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) had an opportunity to tie the game with 5:59 remaining on the clock, but junior goalkeeper Zachery Tashjy (Manasquan, N.J. / Christian Brothers Academy) came up with a save to secure the victory for the Cardinals.
The Generals (2-2-1) and Cardinals (2-3) went into the halftime break tied at 0-0, despite W&L out-shooting CUA, 5-2, in the first half.
For the game, the Blue and White held a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Gillen Beck (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) suffered the loss for the Generals, playing all 90 minutes of action and finishing with one save. Tashjy played the entire match for the Cardinals and stopped five shots.
W&L returns to action on September 19 when it travels to Bridgewater for a 1:00 pm match.
