Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior guard Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) scored a game-high 35 points to lead Randolph-Macon to an 88-70 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.
Livermon shot 15-of-18 (.833) from the floor and hit 4-of-6 three-pointers in the contest. She tallied 12 points in the opening quarter as the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-0) jumped out to an 18-9 lead. However, the Generals (1-3, 0-1) closed the first period on a 10-0 run to assume a 19-18 lead at the end of the period.
With the score tied at 25-25 at the 6:15 mark of the second period, R-MC went on a 12-1 run to take a 37-26 lead with 3:37 left in the half. Senior forward Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry) sparked the run with seven points during the stretch as the Yellow Jackets carried a 10-point lead (47-37) into the halftime break.
W&L chipped away at the deficit in the third period, eventually cutting it to a six-point game (59-53) with 2:39 left, but the Yellow Jackets held the Generals scoreless for the remainder of the period and tacked on three field goals for a 12-point advantage entering the final 10 minutes of game action.
The Generals tried to mount a comeback, but could get no closer than nine points (70-61) in the final period as Macon hit 5-of-7 (.714) from the field and 12-of-15 (.800) from the foul line in the quarter.
For the game, Randolph-Macon shot 54.0 percent (34-63) from the floor. Anderson supplemented Livermon's effort with 24 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) chipped in 11 points and six boards.
W&L shot just 28-of-72 (.389) from the floor and committed 16 turnovers in the contest. Junior guard Jackie Clifford (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) paced four Generals in double-figures with 15 points and five boards. Sophomore guard Emily Perszyk (Greendale, Wis. / Greendale) notched 14 points, while senior forward Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) totaled 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Ailyn Kelly (Clifton, Va. / Centreville) added 10 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday when it hosts Southern Virginia for a 7:00 pm contest.
