Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – First-year defender Kennedy Jakubek (Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora) scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute to lift fifth-ranked Lynchburg to a 1-0 win over the 23rd-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team on Monday afternoon at Watt Field.
Jakubek tallied the game-winner for the Hornets (11-1, 4-0) at the 68:08 mark when she scored from the right side off of a pass from first-year midfielder Brooke Kowalski (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Hills). Jakubek struck the ball from about 24 yards out, and it sailed over the head of Generals' senior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) and into the net.
W&L (7-2, 3-1) and Lynchburg went into intermission knotted at 0-0, with the Hornets holding an 8-6 edge in shots during the first half.
For the game, Lynchburg outshot Washington and Lee, 15-9, and held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Healy saw all 90 minutes of action in goal for the Generals and stopped four shots. Junior keeper Tess Frelick (New Hope, Pa. / New Hope-Solebury) also played the entire match in goal for the Hornets and collected four saves.
W&L returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Roanoke for a 4:00 pm contest.
