Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Led by a match-high 14 kills by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Hendricks, Mary Washington defeated the Washington and Lee volleyball team, 3-0, on Saturday at the Anderson Center.
Despite the sweep, it was a closely contested match. The Eagles (15-4) edged the Generals (9-7) in the first set, 31-29. UMW won the second, 25-22, and then used the momentum from the 2-0 lead to take the third, 25-16.
Senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led W&L with 12 kills, and first-year outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) added seven kills and seven digs.
Sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) had a team-best 15 digs, and sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) added 23 assists and five digs.
Along with Hendricks, senior right side Megan Payne notched nine kills. Sophomore libero Jenna Yost led the team with 15 digs.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm match at Shenandoah.
