Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore defensive specialist Katie Volk (Lancaster, Calif./Quartz Hill) posted a career-high seven service aces and 17 digs to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday at the Warner Center.
The Generals (13-10, 8-1 ODAC) scored the first 18 points of the opening set, including six aces by Volk, on their way to a 25-4 win. The sets became more competitive, but W&L still secured the sweep with scores of 25-14 and 25-18 in the second and third sets.
W&L hit .438 as a team with 39 kills on 73 total attempts and only seven errors. The Blue and White held the Royals (9-11, 2-7 ODAC) to a .012 hitting percentage. EMU totaled just 19 kills on 82 attempts with 18 errors.
Senior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) led the Generals with 13 kills, while first-year outside hitter Meg Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) added 11 kills on 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage.
Junior middle blocker Mackenzie Shand (Saline, Mich./Saline) registered nine kills and four blocks. Sophomore setter Elena West (Roanoke, Va./Northside) had 31 assists, and senior defensive specialist Mansie Hough (St. Petersburg, Fla./Canterbury School) notched five service aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Skyler Johnson (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) led the Royals with eight kills, and sophomore setter Jasmine Johnson (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) tallied 17 assists and seven digs.
The Generals play William Peace later in the day on Saturday.
