LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior forward Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) totaled 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists to lead the Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a 69-61 victory over Hollins in ODAC action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center. 

The Generals (11-3, 4-2) held a slim 14-11 lead midway through the first half, but used a 9-2 run capped by a three-pointer from sophomore guard Jackie Clifford (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) to claim a 23-13 lead at the 7:38 mark. 

The lead grew to 13 points (34-21) on a triple by Hendricks at the 3:32 mark and the Generals carried a nine-point advantage (38-29) into the halftime break.

W&L couldn't put HU away, but Hollins (2-12, 0-6) could not muster a run either.  However, Hollins steadily chipped away at the Generals' advantage, eventually cutting it to a five-point (53-48) game on a jumper by Giselle Verville (Charlotte, N.C. / Southlake Christian) at the 8:09 mark.  Clifford answered on the next possession and W&L maintained a lead of at least seven points until a three-pointer by HU sophomore guard Taylor Catron (Tazewell, Va. / Tazewell) with 20 seconds left made it 66-61.  W&L split a pair of free throws three times in the final 20 seconds for the final margin.

For the game, W&L committed just 13 turnovers and the Generals held a 48-29 advantage on the boards.

Clifford finished with 15 points, five boards and four assists. First-year forward Emma Redding (Allentown, Pa. / Central Catholic) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Annie Gauf (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) logged eight points and five assists.

Hollins sophomore guard Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) tallied 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Catron contributed 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Verville added 11 points.

W&L returns to the court on Tuesday when it travels to Randolph for a 7:00 pm contest.
