Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior forward Jess Rheinheimer scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor to lead Eastern Mennonite to a 70-58 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at Yoder Arena.
W&L (10-3, 3-2) came out of the gates hot, jumping out to an 11-3 lead in the opening 4:28 of the game. First-year forward Emma Redding (Allentown, Pa. / Central Catholic) scored six points during the opening run.
The lead grew to 16-6 following a three-pointer by sophomore forward Samantha Sharman (Huntersville, N.C. / Hopewell) at the 14:04 mark, but the Royals (11-2, 5-0) then responded by going on a 17-4 run over the next 4:17 to take a 23-20 lead with 9:47 left in the first half.
The Generals could not grab the lead back and EMU carried a seven-point lead (37-30) into the intermission.
W&L chipped away at the Royals' advantage, cutting it to three points (45-42) on a layup by sophomore guard Jackie Clifford (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly) with 15:18 to play, but EMU again retaliated, going on a 12-3 spurt to take a 57-45 lead with 9:28 left and the Generals could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Junior forward Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) led the Generals with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Clifford tallied 12 points, while Redding finished with 10 points. Senior guard Annie Gauf (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) chipped in eight points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Senior forward Shakeerah Sykes supplemented Rheinheimer's effort with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while first-year guard Myneshia Walker added 15 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Hollins for a 2:00 pm contest.
