W&L Men's Soccer Falls to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1

LEXINGTON, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan junior midfielder Josh Kemp (Frisco, Texas/Addison Trinity Christian Academy) scored in the 61st minute to lift the Marlins to a 2-1 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

After the Marlins (4-2-1, 2-0) grabbed the early lead on a goal by senior forward Issac Arrington (DeSoto, Texas/Midlothian) in the 18th minute, the Generals (4-2, 0-2) knotted the game at the 33:12 mark as sophomore midfielder Miles Bent (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) scored off an assist from first-year midfielder Sam Knapke (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Benet Academy).

The score remained tied until Kemp found the goal off an assist from Arrington at the 60:05 mark.

Each team managed just six shots in the defensive battle, with the Marlins holding a 7-5 edge on corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) played all 90 minutes in the net and had one save. Junior keeper Connor Kirkham (Centreville/Chantilly Westfield) also saw all 90 minutes of action for VWC totaling one save.

W&L returns to action when it travels to Hampden-Sydney on September 27 for a 7:00 pm contest.
