Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior middle blocker Jenna Gustafson (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) and junior outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) each registered double-digit kills to lead the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Averett on Saturday in a neutral-site match at Bridgewater.
Gustafson notched 11 kills on 17 attempts (.647) and Lausberg tallied 12 kills on 25 attempts with two errors (.400) in the 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 28-26 victory. The 11 kills marked a new career-high for Gustafson. She had totaled 10 on two different occasions.
Senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla. / Pine View) recorded 12 digs for the Generals (10-1), which moved her over 1,000 for her career. She now has 1,011 digs in 105 matches over her four seasons. McManus is also close to moving onto W&L's all-time digs list as Leslie Hess '93 is 10th all-time with 1,036.
First-year outside hitter Mary Silliman (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) notched eight kills and led the team with 14 digs. Junior setter Alex Kinzer (Greenville, S.C./Eastside) registered 38 assists, 11 digs and four kills.
First-year outside hitter Hannah Shields led the Cougars (4-6) with 14 kills on 53 attempts, and added 12 digs. Senior setter Nicole Barringer also had a double-double with 33 assist and 12 digs.
The Generals have now won nine straight matches since losing to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport on August 29. W&L opens ODAC play at home on Wednesday at 6:30 pm against Lynchburg.
