Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford scored two goals in the opening 34 minutes, as it handed the Washington and Lee men's soccer team its first lost of the season, 2-1, at the Armfield Athletic Center on Friday night.
The Quakers (1-5, 1-0 ODAC) controlled the first half, with senior forward Robert Sandidge tallying the team's two goals. Sandidge's first goal was scored in the ninth minute off an assist from senior midfielder Colin Dillon. Sandidge recorded his second on a breakaway at the 33:34 mark.
Senior midfielder Al Organ (St. Paul, Minn. / DeLaSalle ) responded for the Generals (4-1, 0-1 ODAC), when he netted the team's only goal of the game with nine minutes left in the first half off of an assist from sophomore defender Patrick Barry (West Roxbury, Mass. / Roxbury Latin School).
W&L took seven shots in the second half compared to three for Guilford, but the scoreboard remained unchanged as the Quakers held onto the 2-1 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) took the loss for the Blue and White, playing all 90 minutes in net and recording one save. Senior keeper Marko Mandalinic finished the night with seven saves.
The Generals held an advantage in shots, 19-6, and led the Quakers in corner kicks, 7-2.
W&L returns to action on September 20, when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:30 pm contest.
