WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team opened its 2014-15 season by finishing 10th overall at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
The Generals were paced by sophomore Bennett Lewis (St. Louis, Mo. / Westminster Christian) and junior Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School), both of whom placed in their respective weight classes.
Lewis placed third in the 197-pound weight class after going 4-1 overall. He finished his day with a 6-3 win over Zeke Stroupe of Washington & Jefferson in the third-place match.
Tassoni went 3-2 overall after receiving a first-round bye in the 174-pound weight class. He ended his day with a 15-7 loss to Cody Spinks of Alderson Broaddus in the third-place match by a score of 15-7.
First-year Brandon Lefore (Morgan Hill, Calif. / Ann Sobrato) and Matt Kaminer (Hewlett, N.Y. / George W. Hewlett) also completed the tournament with a winning record. Lefore finished 3-2 and Kaminer went 4-2 overall.
Washington and Lee returns to action next Sunday when it hosts Lycoming, Ohio Northern and Huntingdon for matches beginning at 1:00 pm.
