Box Score SALEM, Va. – The fifth-seeded Washington and Lee men's soccer team saw its 2014 season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Roanoke in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Tuesday night at Kerr Stadium. The Generals finish the year 11-5-2, while the Maroons improve to 15-2-2.
Roanoke's junior midfielder Marc Dinkel tallied the game-winning goal in the 57th minute off of an assist from junior midfielder Robby Lentine.
Sophomore midfielder Tim Mahabir started the scoring off for the Maroons when he headed in the first goal at the 16:13 mark off of an assist from Dinkel. Roanoke took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Generals knotted the game just 1:53 into the second half when sophomore forward David Cohen (Chesterfield, N.J. / Northern Burlington County Regional) found the back of the net to make the game 1-1.
Roanoke went on to tally three insurance goals after Dinkel's game-winner. First-year forward Cole Thornton scored two goals and senior midfielder Garrett Eldrige netted the final goal of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Generals and made one save. Junior keeper Cole Sinclair picked up the win for Roanoke, playing the entire match and making four stops. The Maroons also posted one team save.
For the game, the Maroons held an 11-8 edge in shots, while each team took three corner kicks.
Roanoke advances to Saturday's ODAC title game when it will play host to second-seeded Lynchburg, who advanced on penalty kicks over third-seeded Virginia Wesleyan.
