Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) scored four goals to lead the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Ferrum on Tuesday at the Liberty Hall Fields.
Colby's four goals tied as the third-highest single-game total in school history and moved him into fifth all-time for career goals (35).
The game, which was delayed due to lightning and shortened to 70:06 due to darkness, began at Watt Field and was moved to the Liberty Hall Fields.
Colby tallied his first goal in the sixth minute off an assist from first-year midfielder Austin Gilbert (Marshfield, Wis. / Marshfield). He then notched an unassisted tally at the 17:42 mark and then scored off a corner kick from first-year midfielder Andrew Kim (Blacksburg, Va. / Blacksburg) at the 37:15 mark.
Colby added his fourth goal unassisted just 2:30 into the second half and Ferrum first-year defender Matthew Pointer (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Frommel) scored the final goal of the game at 69:09 off an assist from first-year defender Xavier Matthews (Reston, Va./Westfield). The game was then called just 57 seconds later.
For the contest, W&L (8-2) held a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) played the duration in goal for W&L, making one save. Sophomore Keegan Fairchild (Herndon, Va./Herndon) played the first 60:20 in goal for the Panthers (4-7-2), making four saves with four goals allowed. First-year Bradley Bryar (Burke, Va./Robinson) played the final 9:46 and made one stop.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lynchburg for a 3:00 pm contest.
