Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior running back Jacob Wright carried 27 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bridgewater to a 24-13 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC football action on Saturday afternoon at Jopson Field.

The Eagles (5-2, 2-2) held W&L (1-6, 1-3) to just 81 yards in the opening half en route to a 14-3 lead at the break.  After a scoreless first quarter, Bridgewater got on the board just 52 seconds into the second quarter when junior quarterback Ross Rushing hit sophomore tight end Keith Jennings with a 1-yard touchdown pass on a third-and-goal.  The score was set up by a 51-yard punt return from senior running back Jordan Hartman to the Generals' 4-yardline.

W&L made it 7-3 with 6:00 left in the half when sophomore placekicker Matt Underhill (Bethesda, Md./Landon) capped a 10-play, 62-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal.  However, BC scored with 1:26 left when Wright found paydirt on a 1-yard run for a 14-3 lead at the break.

The Generals cut it to a one-score game on the opening possession of the second half, taking the kickoff and driving 73 yards on 12 plays, before first-year running back Walker Brand (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to make it 14-10 with 8:00 left in the third quarter.

Bridgewater responded on its first possession of the third quarter, driving 56 yards before junior placekicker Chadler DeHaven booted a 33-yard field goal for a 17-10 lead with 1:51 left in the period.

W&L strung together a 17-play drive on its next possession, but stalled out on the BC 12-yardline and Underhill kicked a 29-yard field goal to make it 17-13 with 8:35 remaining.

DeHaven missed a 42-yard field goal on the Eagles next possession and the Generals took over on their own 25-yardline with 5:09 to play.  BC's defense produced a 3-and-out and then Wright took over, rushing for 57 yards on the ensuing drive, including scoring on a 41-yard touchdown run with 2:08 left for the exclamation point.

W&L totaled just 201 yards of total offense in the contest led by sophomore running back Marshall Hollerith (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's), who carried 16 times for 56 yards.  Brand finished with seven carries for 39 yards and one reception for 30 yards.  Sophomore quarterback Charlie Nelson (Redding, Conn./St. Luke's) completed his day 2-of-12 passing for 37 yards and two interceptions, and he rushed 16 times for 29 yards.  Sophomore linebacker John Carrick (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) paced the defense with 10 tackles.

Rushing completed 9-of-13 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown, while junior quarterback Matthew Pisarcik finished 7-of-10 for 47 yards for the Eagles.  Jennings hauled in three passes for 56 yards and the one touchdown.

Senior linebacker Alex Collins and sophomore linebacker Nicholas Anthony each tallied 10 tackles to lead the BC defensive effort.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 1:00 pm contest.
