Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Lynchburg senior forward Luke Moore (Richmond, Va. / Hermitage) tallied the game-winning goal to lift the Hornets to a 1-0 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Moore scored the goal at the 80:14 mark, when he beat senior goalkeeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) on a penalty kick.
The Generals (8-3, 3-3) and the Hornets (8-4, 5-1) played a scoreless first-half, despite W&L out-shooting Lynchburg, 9-5, and holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. For the game, W&L held a 16-13 edge in shots and an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Civitarese saw all 90 minutes of action in goal and posted eight saves. First-year keeper Sam Cannon (Ocean View, Del. / Indian River) played 17:57 and made one save. Junior goalkeeper Scott Zaring (Forest, Va. / Jefferson Forest) took the win for the Hornets and played the remaining 72:03 and totaled three saves.
W&L returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Shenandoah for a 4:00 pm contest.
