W&L Men's Soccer Earns 2-0 Triumph Over Hampden-Sydney

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to post a 2-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.

With the win, the Generals improved to 3-0-3 on the season and 1-0 in the ODAC, while the Tigers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. 

Despite tallying seven shots in the first half, neither team was able to capitalize. In the second stanza, W&L took a 1-0 lead after junior forward Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) controlled a pass from first-year defender Mason Billings (Greensboro, N.C./Page) in the 68th minute and sent the ball into the right side of the net.

Sophomore midfielder Benjamin Bayles (Fleming Island, Fla./Fleming Island) added the insurance goal at the 77:13 mark and gave the Generals the 2-0 victory. 

Junior keeper Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa./Sewickley Academy) notched his fifth shutout of the season and finished with one save. First-year goalie Cameron McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./South Kent) played all 90:00 in goal for the Tigers, finishing with eight saves.

For the game, the Blue and White outshot the Tigers, 15-4, and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. 

W&L returns to action on Sunday, traveling to Bridgewater for a 2:00 pm contest.
