W&L Volleyball Clips Eagles, 3-1

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Despite dropping the first set, the Washington and Lee volleyball team rallied to earn a 3-1 victory at Mary Washington on Thursday.

The Eagles (14-9) claimed the first set, 25-22, but the Generals (22-6) responded by taking the second, 25-15.

In the third, UMW led 18-13, but W&L won 12 of the next 14 points to secure the set, 25-20. The Blue and White used the momentum to run away with the fourth, 25-9, and win the match.

Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) and sophomore defensive specialist Kasey Cannon (North Wales, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) each recorded eight kills. Boles also added 12 digs for a double-double.

Senior defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View) led the Generals with 18 digs, while senior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) contributed 22 assists and 15 digs.

Mary Washington struggled with its offense, as it finished with a -.032 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle hitter Alexis Cummings and senior outside hitter Kaitlynn Wickersham each had 11 kills, but needed a combined 83 attempts to reach the totals. First-year setter Emma Olson notched a match-high 27 assists.

The Generals play York (Pa.) and Christopher Newport on Saturday in Newport News, Va.
