W&L Women's Soccer Flies Past Guilford, 5-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team used three goals in the second half to pull well ahead of Guilford, defeating the Quakers, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Generals are now 12-1-1 on the year and an undefeated 8-0 in the ODAC, while GC falls to 1-15 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

In the 17th minute, junior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Notfolk Academy) scored the Generals' first goal of the contest, giving W&L a 1-0 lead. Junior midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) gave the Generals a 2-0 lead at the half with an unassisted tally at the 25:13 mark.

W&L used the second half to increase their lead over the Quakers, as three more goals were recorded in the final 45:00.

First-year Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) continued to be an offensive threat with two tallies in the second half. Her first came in the 68th minute off a first-year Katie Pettit assist to give the Generals the 3-0 lead. Jessee then registered W&L's fourth goal of the game just four minutes later at the 71:39 mark when she controlled a pass from Ward and sent the ball into the back of the net.

Sophomore midfielder Meghan Latella (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) notched her first goal of the season off a sophomore Becca Dunn (Houston, Texas/Memorial) assist to give the Generals the final 5-0 victory.

In net for the Blue and White was senior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio/Westminster School/Miami Valley), who recorded her first shutout of the year and played all 90 minutes in goal. Abby Grove suffered the loss for the Quakers, collecting 13 saves in 90 minutes of action, but allowing five goals.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Sweet Briar for a 12:00 pm contest.
