Ohio Northern Defeats W&L Wrestling, 31-7

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team suffered a 31-7 setback against Ohio Northern on Saturday afternoon at Doremus Gym.

After the 125 match was not contested, ONU (6-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead with wins by decision at 133 and 141 pounds.  However, the Generals (0-6) countered with wins at 149 and 157 pounds to take a 7-6 lead halfway through the match.

Sophomore Conor Duffey (Boxford, Mass. / Brooks School) got W&L on the board when he posted a 5-0 win over sophomore Nick Pataro at 149 pounds.  Junior Dan Igel (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. / Bolles School) then notched a 12-4 major decision over first-year T.J. Calton to give the Generals the lead.

The Polar Bears then seized control of the match by winning 9-3 at 165 pounds and then posting two technical falls, followed by a pair of wins by fall for the 31-7 final.

Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday when it hosts the W&L Invitational.  Action begins at 10:00 am.
