Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. — In its first match of the W&L Invitational on Friday, the Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, 3-0.
The 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 victory improved the Generals to 3-2, while the Battling Bishops fell to 1-4. N.C. Wesleyan lost to Johns Hopkins, 3-1, in the opening match of the invitational.
First-year outside hitter Anna Lausberg (Ocoee, Fla/Bishop Moore Catholic) continued to fill up the stat sheet with her third-straight 14-kill performance. She also added seven digs and hit .462. Sophomore defensive specialist Kelly McManus (Osprey, Fla./Pine View School) led the team in digs with 11 and had two service aces. Junior setter Meghan Meleski (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) totaled 29 assists and seven digs.
For the Battling Bishops, senior middle hitter Anna Hart (Ocean Isle Beach, N.C./W. Brunswick) led the team with nine kills and added seven digs. Senior setter Kristi Lucas (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had 27 assists, and senior libero Shana Ayers (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) tallied 14 digs.
Despite not seeing a lot of playing time, junior outside hitter Allison Rouse (Troy, Mich./Troy) came in toward the end of each set and pushed W&L over the top, notching three service aces.
The Generals played Marietta later on Friday.
