W&L Women's Soccer Takes Down Hollins, 10-0

Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team knocked down Hollins, 10-0, to claim its first ODAC victory of the season Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.

With the win, the Generals improve to 3-1 on the year, while Hollins drops to 1-3 overall.

Sophomore midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) started off the scoring run with back-to-back goals in the first 4:57 of the contest. At the 2:35 mark, Ward connected directly with the back of the net on her own corner kick. Two minutes later in the fourth minute, she notched her second goal of the game.

Sophomore forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) and sophomore midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) also registered two goals apiece for the game, with the scores being their first two on the season. Rush scored the Generals' fourth goal after beating Hollins goalkeeper Brandi Chesne (Hammond, La./NorthLake Christian) to the ball in the box in the 24th minute and then collected her second at the 72:13 mark. Beasley used a Ward corner kick to head in her first in the 27th minute and then answered again soon after with an unassisted score at 31:13.

Four others scored in the contest, including two players who netted their first goal of the 2012 campaign. Senior forward Hannah Sackfield (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) and first-year midfielder Meaghan Latella (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) saw their first points on the season, as both scored in the game. Junior forward Jasmine Soo (Charleston, W.Va./Culver Academies) and junior midfielder Alexis Blight (Columbia, Md./McDonogh) were the final two score-makers for W&L.

In goal for the Blue and White was junior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio/Westminster School), recording one save in her 90 minutes of play.

Chesne also spent the entire game protecting the net for Hollins, tallying 14 saves and 10 goals-against.

W&L returns to the field when its travels to Randolph on Saturday for a 1:00 pm contest.
