Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of action and never looked back as the Generals claimed a 6-0 victory over Guilford on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.
Sophomore forward Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) opened the contest's scoring after booting in a thru ball from sophomore forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) in the third minute.
At the 12:05 mark, Rush received a short pass from Rossi and netted the second goal for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Just 1:43 into the second half, Rush registered her second goal of the game on a cross from sophomore midfielder Emily Scott (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central). Less than two minutes later, sophomore midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) dribbled through a crowd of defenders and found the back of the net from nine yards out for a 4-0 Generals' lead.
Sophomore defender Taylor DeVoe (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) scored her first goal of her career with a penalty kick at 66:30, and first-year midfielder Mary Woodruff Griffin (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) recorded W&L's final goal in the 82nd minute for the final margin.
The Generals have now won six in a row and claim a 12-2-1 overall record and an 8-1-1 mark in the ODAC. With the loss, the Quakers fell to 3-14 on the season and 2-8 in conference action.
First-year Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) and junior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio/Westminster School) split time in net for the Blue and White. Healy played the initial 65:36 of the contest and Schroeder spent the remaining 24:24 protecting the net.
In net for GC was senior Miriam Davis-Rosenbaum, who collected 14 saves and six goals-against in 90:00.
W&L returns to the pitch on Saturday, when it travels to Ashland, Va., to face Randolph-Macon for a 3:00 pm contest.
