Box Score EMORY, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Zach Colby (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) scored two goals as the Washington and Lee men's soccer team gave Head Coach Rolf Piranian his 300th career win with a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry on Wednesday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.
Piranian's career record now stands at 300-238-49 (.553) over his 37 seasons as a head coach. He becomes the 38th coach in Division III history to reach the 300-win plateau, joining Roanoke Head Coach Scott Allison who achieved the mark earlier this season.
Colby opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he collected a thru ball from sophomore midfielder Toby D'Ambola (Marietta, Ga. / Kennesaw Mountain) and beat E&H senior goalkeeper Justin Spencer for a 1-0 lead. Colby then notched his league-leading 11th goal of the season at the 80:48 mark when he scored on a free kick from 20 yards out.
The Generals (8-3-1, 5-1-1) controlled play throughout the contest, holding a 17-2 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Albert Civitarese (Bridgeville, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save for the Generals' seventh shutout of the season and fourth in a row.
Spencer also played the duration in goal for the Wasps (2-11-2, 0-5-2), stopping five shots.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 12:00 pm contest.
