LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team dropped
a 33-14 decision to Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at Doremus
Gym.
After a forfeit loss at 125 pounds, senior Sam Campbell
(Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) got the Generals (2-16, 0-5) on the
board with a technical fall (18-3, 7:00) victory over JHU junior
Michael Koren (Las Vegas, Nev./Mesivta) at 133 pounds.
W&L first-year Matt
Howell (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) then dropped a 16-3 major
decision to junior Paul Marcello (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Cardinal
Gibbons) at 141 pounds, while sophomore 149-pounder H.T. Kotchinian
(Lowell, Mass./Belmont Hill) suffered a 2-1 setback against JHU
sophomore Henry Stauber (Waccabuc, N.Y./John Jay).
Senior David
Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) posted his team-leading
eighth pin of the season, felling Johns Hopkins sophomore Matt
Fusaro (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) in 3:54 at 157 pounds to pull
W&L to within 13-11 on the scoreboard.
Sophomore 165-pounder Dan Igel
(Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bolles School) notched a 4-3 win over JHU
junior Jody Gowen (Belmont, Mass./St. Paul's) to give the Generals
a 14-13 lead, but W&L dropped matches at 174 and 184 pounds and
conceded forfeits at 197 and 285 pounds as the Blue Jays (3-11,
2-1) pulled away for the win. First-year Zan Reed (Dallas,
Texas/Highland Park) dropped a 15-0 tech fall (5:14) to Hopkins
first-year Travis Laska (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) at 174
and first-year Morgan
Moskal (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) was defeated by JHU senior
Ben Finelli (Ambler, Pa./Germantown Academy) at 184, 10-3.
Washington and Lee returns to action next Saturday when it hosts
NYU and Ursinus for an 11:00 am tri-match.
